In fine weather, a seat on the grip car puts you in intimate contact with the passing scenery along the 8km return journey, which takes around one hour and has a full commentary. The grip car is a faithful replica, built to the original 1889 plans, and fitted with a diesel hydraulic drive. Travelling along the scenic coastal and harbour route the tram links some of Portland's major tourist attractions. The World War II Memorial Lookout Tower, the Maritime Discovery Museum and Visitor Information Centre, History House, Botancial Gardens and the Powerhouse Vintage Motor and Car Museum. The tram depot buliding in Henty Park houses a workshop, offices, theatrette and museum along with a model train display featuring a layout of Porltand Harbour in the 1950's.
