Welcome to
Portland from the Portland Tourist Association and all its members.
Portland
is surrounded by three large bays and has kilometres of beaches, suitable
for fishing, swimming and surfing.
We are a small community of approximately 10,000 people and have a diverse
range of tourist activities within and around our city. Our region is
quite unique as it has volcanic origins, is the only area where early
aboriginal people built permanent stone shelters, and has eco tourist
attractions that include the only mainland colony of Australasian Gannets
at Point Danger and the only mainland colony of Australasian Fur Seals
at Cape Bridgewater. We also have the Great South West Walk, 250 kms of
walking tracks that take you along clifftops, beaches, the Glenelg River
and through magnificent hardwood forests. Portland has historic origins
as it is the birthplace of Victoria and home to more than 200 historic
buildings.
