surfing
For the keen surfer, Portland offers consistent waves and few crowds. For beginners, Bridgewater Bay has a great family beach and light breaking waves on a sandy bottom. As you improve you can venture eastwards towards Shelly Beach, where the swell improves or try the Watertower near Portland.
Yellow Rock is sure to produce fine waves, as is Crumpets. Closer to Portland, Blacknose Point can be accessed by a dirt track off Madeira Packet Road. One of the longest breaks in Victoria, Blacknose is suited to the experienced surfer and novices who can stay off the rocks. The surf at Whites Beach, to the east of Discovery Bay, relies on the weather and is really best left to the more experienced surfers.
