Portland Maritime Discovery Centre.

The Portland Maritime Discovery Centre, which has been built alongside a shipwreck on Portland's foreshore, showcases numerous maritime artifacts, as well as highlighting the many ships that came to grief as a result of the unforgiving Southern Ocean. You can inspect a lifeboat used in the rescue of 19 people from the Admella shipwreck in 1859. Sit inside the ribcage of a giant sperm whale skeleton or come face to face with a Great White Shark replica.

The original Curator's cottage is a double storey bluestone cottage built in 1858. The cottage was home to six Curators until 1963. It has been restored and furnished in period style by the Portland Historical Society.

Portland Powerhouse Motor and Car Museum

The Portland Powerhouse Motor and Car Museum houses a unique collection of veteran, vintage, classic cars and bric-a-brac.

History House (Old Town Hall)

Open daily 10am to 12noon & 1pm to 4pm

History House museum displays include maritime, photographic collections and historical artifacts. The building is now used as the Family History and Historical Research Centre.

Tickets available from the Portland Visitor Information Centre or the Tram Depot.

The tram depot building in Henty Park houses a workshop, offices, theatrette and a museum, along with a model train display featuring a layout of Portland Harbour in the 1950's.

Portland Battery
Victoria Parade
The Portland Battery was built on Victoria Parade in 1889 due to the threat of invasion by the Russians. It has been fully restored and compliments Portland's maritime heritage.

Steam Packet Inn
33 Bentinck Street

The Steam Packet Inn was built in 1841 for Samuel Hutchinson as a Hotel. It was later used as a Police Barracks, a guest house and then as a private residence. Privately owned it is currently undergoing renovations.
