Nuns Beach
Situated in the centre of town, Nuns Beach is a safe family beach. Within
walking distance of most accommodation providers Nuns Beach is where many
locals swim and play after a busy day. A wide, sandy beach with shallow
water suitable for young families. Facilities include shelters, toilets
and showers
Bridgewater
Beach
Bridgewater Beach situated at Cape Bridgewater
is a pleasant 20 minute drive from Portland via Otway Street. Bridgewater
is a picturesque 4km stretch of wide sandy beach suitable for swimming
and surfing. The Portland Surf Lifesaving Club patrols Bridgewater Beach
on weekends and public holidays, between 10am and 5pm from the first week
in December until Easter.
Facilities include toilets, picnic tables, phone box and cafe.
Shelly
Beach
A 15 minute drive from Portland, Shelly Beach is a great place for collecting
shell fragments, rock fishing and surfiing.
Discovery
Bay
The beach of Discovery Bay stretches as far as the eye can see, offering
an extraordinary vista of sand dunes that stretch all the way to Nelson.
Either stroll the vast expanse of coastline, try your hand at surf fishing
or simply marvel at the amazing shifting sands.
Yellow
Rock
Yellow rock is a 10 minute drive from the centre of Portland on the way
to Cape Nelson. Yellow Rock is a limestone formation positioned on the
edge of the cliff and is a popular surfing spot and painting subject for
local artists. It is well worth the visit as boardwalks, platforms and
staircases make this area accessible for prams and wheelchairs. Allow
around 10 minutes for the return walk from the car park.
Narrawong
Beach
Narrawong Beach (a surf beach) is a 10 minute drive from Portland, on
the way to Port Fairy. The Surry River flows into the sea at Narrawong
and this section of the river has been a popular swimmimng spot with locals
and visitors for many decades.
